What is naturopathy?

Naturopathic treatment recognizes that body systems work together as a whole. The human body has an amazing ability to heal itself once underlying causes are removed and right nutrition is in place. Naturopathy recognizes the healing power of plants and minerals, using safe and effective treatments without side effects.  Naturopathy guides people in making informed choices on food and lifestyle, and encourages everyone to take responsibility for their own health.

Who can benefit from naturopathy?
Naturopathic treatments work with the body to promote healing. They are safe and effective and suitable for people of all ages.

Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicines are used in the prevention of illness and treatment of ailments. Herbs can be taken as fluid extracts, teas or tablets. Herbal prescriptions are based on traditional medicine as well as scientific research.

Nutrition, Vitamins and Mineral Therapy
Lack of crucial nutrients can lead to illness. Factors such as poor dietary choices, impaired digestion, low absorption and chemical exposure, can deplete our nutrient reserves. Dietary modification as well as vitamin and mineral supplementation are important tools that bring the body back into a state of well-being.

Detoxification
Exposure to environmental toxins is difficult to avoid. Even a walk in the park may expose us to herbicides. Our bodies have a certain degree of resilience in their ability to cope with toxins, but when cumulative toxic load reaches its limit, the body may display reactions such as allergies, poor immunity, weight gain or disease. Nutritional treatment can help deal with toxic load and restore energy and vitality.

Healthy weight management
This is more than losing or gaining kilos. The V.L.A. Bioimpedance test will show you your personal target weight for your frame and height. Weight management will aim at building muscle while losing unwanted fat. This is achieved through a sensible eating plan, detoxification and exercise.

What is a Bioimpedence test?
Bioimpedance analysis uses advanced technology to measure your body’s composition. It is possible for people to be ‘normal’ weight and yet be carrying excess fat combined with low muscle mass. Excess body fat, particularly around the middle, raises cardiovascular risk. Having adequate muscle mass is essential for glucose disposal and lowers the risk of diabetes. The Bioimpedance test also shows cellular health, and monitors healthy ageing. As results are measured over time you can see how your health is improving.

Bioimpedence analysis is a science that was originally developed for monitoring patients after surgery in a hospital setting. Leads are connected to the hands and feet, and a low voltage electrical current passes through your body. This is safe and painless, and provides insight into aspects of your health, such as how much fat and muscle you have in your body. Regular monitoring of your fat/muscle ratio helps you achieve your goal.

Mineral Hair
Mineral Hair Analysis us used to show levels of toxic metals like mercury, lead, cadmium and aluminium, as well as indicating beneficial minerals that are lacking. Specialized supplements can be used to rectify excesses and deficiencies.

Heavy metals are acquired through environmental factors. Pollutants make their way into our food and water supply, as well as the air we breathe. Common sources are pesticides, industrial waste and amalgam fillings. Heavy Metals are responsible for many diseases of our modern world.
